Training and Support Descriptions

Peaceful Schools PRL has a 14 year history of promoting a culture that empowers youth, promotes trust and accountability among community members, and allows students to experience a sense of safety and belonging that enables them to engage in learning more freely.
The mission of PRL is to provide comprehensive Character Education and Conflict Resolution services that engage school communities in the practice of promoting social competence and peaceful positive conflict resolution.

Facilitating Small Groups
This training is for adult participants who will be conducting small group interventions. This two day training will present Best Practices for planning and conducting small groups, including discussion on how to select and group students, obtaining parental permission, and promoting a positive Youth Development program. Participants will review a variety of program models including Bry’s Behavioral Monitoring and Reinforcing Program, identified as a Blueprints Promising Program, Arnold Goldstein’s Skill-streaming: A structured Learning Approach To Teaching Social Skills, and Please Stand Up, a program developed by the New York State Center For School Safety to empower the bystander and engage youth in productive discussions about violence prevention.

Facilitators Support Network
Quarterly follow up meetings and booster trainings can be conducted to support small group facilitators through the implementation process and to provide a network for sharing resources/materials and success strategies. Meetings are typically scheduled for 2 hours each.

Team Building for the Prevention Practitioner
Presented as a full day workshop, this training is designed for Counseling and Psychological services personnel. The purpose of this training is to promote a culture of respect and to explore the challenges that face workers in the human service field and develop internal strategies for acknowledging and responding to the stresses that arise. Follow up trainings can be designed based on the needs of each group and may address issues such as Burn-out, Strategies for Positive Productive Communication and Understanding the Positions of Control in Conflict

Conducting Student Forums
Providing youth with opportunities to voice their ideas and opinions is critical to creating a culture that promotes Positive Youth Development. This training will be designed to discuss strategies for designing and conducting Youth Forums and Focus Groups. Presented as a full day workshop.

Introduction to Restorative Practices
Restorative Practices are intervention strategies designed to engage members of a community in the process of repair after a violent or disruptive incident has happened. This ½ day work shop is designed as an introduction to the history of Restorative Justice and current models of Restorative Practice being applied in a school setting. This training is appropriate for staff, parents, administrators and community members.

Promoting Student Personal Safety
This workshop will focus on providing teachers, counselors, and administrators with the key skills and strategies to promote students Physical, Social and Emotional Safety. The training will include the guidelines of the National Center For Missing And Exploited Children to prevent child abduction, and an overview of strategies and practices that promote Internet Safety.
